FIVE PERCENT SOUNDS by Michael Clift Stuck in our heads Wedged in our ears Shaking the room Filling the hall The stadia The field The mall Music answers our call From the press of a button To a band taking stage To buskers on streets And thousands at raves Music answers our call Eating out for the ears A luxury item Ubiquitous now It helps us keep moving On and around Upside and down Eager consumers rocking To the mallsound But musics heart is hurting A bruised aching pulse Sends out it’s message To us all Hoping to change, Charge, reactivate With it’s call It’s time for good music to return And stand up From Its Fall Ignored by many Embraced by those few Who are moved by bits motion Giving colour to sound Those acute aural faculties Hearing music all around It floats through the centuries Unearthing bones from the ground Faithful souls rewarded at last Upgraded to the firmament Set and ready for a blast Of good music Sending sirens to the few A calling cursed by madness Calling back they grace us With strange sounds from Their beautiful sadness In hearing magic circles Spill in their head Sharing secrets without words To blurt out in haste They swear over spells they’ve Been given and can’t bear to waste They work on a masterpiece And break their own hearts They implode in majesty They fall apart But They leave Good music Putting magic into words put to the page A blueprint of themselves An aural DNA History’s bell is chiming When we hear them Have their say With their good music They hear spaceships land In their own backyard Openin their ears Driven by given sound The five percenter Dares to risk To take a chance Inspire a dance Move bodies In and out of trance Into life alive Beyond control Out of others reach, Into a world of turning heads And dancing feet Into the world Of Five Percent Sounds

about

Clockwork is a kind of musical novel. One inner Journey of an unsettled and wayward soul.
Made whole maybe only by music.

It began as a soundtrack to a National Theatre funded production of "A Clockwork Orange" by fellow Mancunian Anthony Burgess, directed by other outstanding Mancunian Benji Reid for his Breaking Cycles production company.
